davaar house
Davaar House is the self build home of Archid Technologist Gordon Aitken. Despite the tight frontage of the plot Gordon managed to achieve a stylish and spacious 3 bedroom property.
Davaar House is Gordon’s first fully fledged foray into self-building. Built in a quiet residential street, the bespoke design of the house evolved into a 4-bedroom dwelling, with integral garage, to suit the restricted width of the site.
The design objectives achieved included maximizing the size of the main living areas and providing a modern living environment, while maintaining a conventional Scottish appearance. The contemporary styled external finishes utilize traditional materials, including wet-dash render and slate effect roof tiles. The windows are highly insulated ‘eco-friendly’ Swedish timber double glazed units.
Davaar House is also the first in the UK to use ‘Accoya’ timber cladding. This revolutionary material is a pre-finished timber cladding that is processed in an environmentally friendly way, without harmful preservative, with the added benefit that its maintenance free for 50 years.
